The Dedication was a success!
Look at glamour-puss in her pearls! The Dedication ceremony turned out really well. For those of you who may not know, a dedication ceremony is basically a celebration of Violets successful and healthy entrance into this world, a time for the family and friends to pledge their commitment to support her and us, and a chance for Violet to wear a really sweet white dress and pearls that my grandma gave me for her to wear (they are a family heirloom from Japan)and look really adorable!
Also - Violet now has her own bank account! Her loot from the party was great - now when she wants those designer jeans, she can use her own money! :)
It is so great that we could have the UU Minister come to our house for the ceremony, but that also means a lot of cleaning! I basically cleaned for 3 days straight before the party. My grandma came all the way from Kansas City to meet Violet on her special day and she and my parents also stayed a
t the house. My family was a big help though. Helped me set up and keep the place neat for our other guests!During the ceremony, all the grandparents gave Violet a yellow daisy. She was so interested in the whole ceremony, but especially those flowers! They all "handed" them too her at once, it was very cute. She also had to check out the bowl of water the Minister used "as a symbol of her consecration" and her "connection to the earth". It really was a great ceremony. It seemed very official, but at the same time, really personal. More spiritual than religious. I think everyone else really liked it too.
She was pretty wired for the rest of the afternoon, but finally conked out eventually. (This is a child who sleeps through dog's barking a foot away). (this is Miss V's big girl chair. Sadly, she grew out of her papasan.)
I want to thank everyone again for coming to the party! Violet, Mike and I appreciated it!
